Discovering Thangka (cloth-painted scrolls with Buddha images) painting
Located in the centre of Amdo Tibetan region, Repgong is regarded as the source of Thangka painting in the whole of Tibet. Served as intermediary between man and divinity, for the purpose of worship and meditative visualisation, Thangka handmade in Repgong is unrivalled due to its bright colors and delicate details.
In Repgong there are two famous Thangka panting school: Yagotsang and Magotsang monasteries in Sangeshong village, where 99% villagers and monks get involved in Thangka painting, and a museum dedicated to Thangka art. A nearby village Gormer is renowned for fine clay sculpture.
On arrival in Xiahe, visit Labrang monastery with a local Tibetan guide, there you’ll see a fine collection of Yak butter sculpture and fascinating architecture, including the longest program path in the world. Overnight at Labrang.
Explore Thangka painting at two local Thangka painting schools and the museum. With time permits, meet artists face to face at other smaller Thangka painting studios.

Appreciate Tibetan embroidery, costumes and dance

Circle around Labrang Monastery along the world’s longest pilgrim path, on the way seeing Tibetans wearing in colorful costumes. Enjoy a local meal at Nangma hall in the evening, to watch the Tibetan costume&dance performance.
Drive to Trika through the Chumgya forest. On the road sightseeing at Shashong monastery, have a splendid overview of exquisite religious buildings located on cliff, facing the vast valley with the Yellow River winding trough and a range of Snow Mountains as backdrops. Dwell in Trika, a tranquil town beside the clear Yellow River.
Head to Mengra to view local women making embroidery in the village. Stay overnight at Chabcha count
