Route 1:

Discovering Thangka (cloth-painted scrolls with Buddha images) painting

Located in the centre of Amdo Tibetan region, Repgong is regarded as the source of Thangka painting in the whole of Tibet. Served as intermediary between man and divinity, for the purpose of worship and meditative visualisation, Thangka handmade in Repgong is unrivalled due to its bright colors and delicate details.

In Repgong there are two famous Thangka panting school:  Yagotsang and Magotsang monasteries in Sangeshong village, where 99% villagers and monks get involved in Thangka painting, and a museum dedicated to Thangka art. A nearby village Gormer is renowned for fine clay sculpture.

Itinerary

 DAY 1 

Labrang

On arrival in Xiahe, visit Labrang monastery with a local Tibetan guide, there you’ll see a fine collection of Yak butter sculpture and fascinating architecture, including the longest program path in the world. Overnight at Labrang.

 DAY 2 

Repgong

Explore Thangka painting at two local Thangka painting schools and the museum.  With time permits, meet artists face to face at other smaller Thangka painting studios.

 DAY 3 

Tsekok

After watching clay sculpture making in Gormer, drive to Tsekok to see the stone carving workshops. Overnight at Tsekok.

 DAY 4 

Return Xiahe

Route 2:

Appreciate Tibetan embroidery, costumes and dance

(Optional: Join the annual Luchu Tibetan Dance Competition, and try circle dance around a campfire on the grasslands at night)

Itinerary

 DAY 1 

Xiahe/Labrang

Circle around Labrang Monastery along the world’s longest pilgrim path, on the way seeing Tibetans wearing in colorful costumes.  Enjoy a local meal at Nangma hall in the evening, to watch the Tibetan costume&dance performance.

 DAY 2 

Trika

Drive to Trika through the Chumgya forest. On the road sightseeing at Shashong monastery, have a splendid overview of exquisite religious buildings located on cliff, facing the vast valley with the Yellow River winding trough and a range of Snow Mountains as backdrops.  Dwell in Trika, a tranquil town beside the clear Yellow River.

 DAY 3 

Mengra

Head to Mengra to view local women making embroidery in the village. Stay overnight at Chabcha count

 

 DAY 4 
Chabcha

After watching dances at the local Tibetan dance school, drive to Qinghai Lake.  Stop on the Sharla pass to enjoy a panoramic view of this largest inland salt lake of China. Stay overnight at Qinghai Lake

 DAY 5 

Xining

Visit the Tibetan culture and medicine museum. Overnight at Xining

 DAY 6 

Return home.

Explore the unique beauty of Tibetan architecture

Itinerary

 DAY 1 

Labrang

On arrival in Labrang, visit the largest monastery in Amdo region and admire its exquisite buildings together with the longest pilgrim path in the world.

 DAY 2 

Darkanang

Drive to Darkanang, a rocky mountain valley known for its picturesque village.  On the way visit the Tarktsang Lhamo monasteries. Homestay at Darkanang.

 DAY 3 

Rongtark

Cruise through the vast grasslands, arrive the Rongtark Valley, which is rated as one of the most beautiful villages in China. Stay overnight at beautiful stone cottages in Rongtark.

 DAY 4 

Rongtark

Stroll around the village, to appreciate the distinctive architecture style including stone houses and watch towers. Homestay.

 DAY 5 

Tawu

Drive to Tawu, on the road passing by an array of fantastic architectures. Overnight at Tawu.

 DAY 6 

Kandze

Visit local monastery and view the wooden architectures. Overnight at Kandze

 DAY 7 

Dardo (Kangding)

Drive to Dardo (Kangding) overnight at Dardo.

 DAY 8 

Chengdu, ending tour
