GLIMPSE AT CULTURE & ART
This is a tour aiming to provide a brief introduction of Tibetan culture and art around Labrang. In this area most art forms are related to religion or traditional nomadic lifestyle, so you’ll have chance to visit the most supreme monastery in this region, explore daily lives on the grasslands, and meet face to face with Tibetan Medicine practioners, Thangka artists and local singers. Choose from one, two or three day options.

Tibetan Architecture & Painting
On arrival in Xiahe, you’ll be met by local Tibetan guide, who will lead you through Labrang Monastery to give you an overview of its exquisite architecture and history.
In the afternoon, pay a visit to Phuntsok Thangka Art studio, where Tibetan Thangka artist Phuntsok, the representative successor of intangible cultural heritage of Xiahe County, will explain the procedure of painting Thangka. Feel free to try your hand at painting yourself.
Tibetan Incense & Medicine
In the early morning, take an insider’s tour to Labarang Monastery, listening to Monk’s morning chanting, and watching Tibetans lighting aromatic plants to pray. Afterwards, you’ll enjoy a panoramic view of the whole monastery from hills around before visiting a Tibetan incense manufacturer.
At the Tibetan incense manufacturer, you’ll learn about the ingredients of Tibetan incense (saffron crocus, snow lotus herb and so on) and effects (improving immune system, disease prevention and disinfection). Meanwhile, watch the manufacturing process.
After lunch you’ll be met by your driver-guide and make your way to Sangke Grasslands, where you’ll visit a Tibetan pharmaceutical factory. Following that, a Tibetan medicine practioner will take your pulse and answer any of your questions.
Tibetan music, dance and costumes
After staying overnight within tents or cottages at Sangke Grasslands, in the morning you will visit nomad families, try horse riding, or listen to local musician playing dragonhead lyre and singing pastoral songs. Dressing in Tibetan costumes to take photos, make this moment imprinted in your momory.
To get an overview of local art and culture, visit labrang Jingdong Gannan Folk Cultural Museum afterwards. There you will see Tibetan cultural relics, or whiz around Tibetan souvenirs such as local specialty, accessories and Tibetan costumes.
The night ends at a local Tibetan performance theater, to watch Tibetan singing and dancing, as well as costume performance. Meanwhile, have a taste of local cuisine.
